Day 79 – 42 degrees at 6:30 a.m.; heavy clouds, windy and some rain during the night. We checked the weather forecast & it predicted no more rain until early tomorrow morning, partly sunny and a high of 54 degrees. We decided to stick around and enjoy the campground which still had very few campers.
We took a bike ride; it was cold & windy at times, but it was still very nice. We found that Loop 1, a large loop in this campground, was closed. (The signs said it was closed because it was “an endangered species nesting area”, and we wondered which species. Hopefully we remember to ask about that before we leave here on Friday.) When we got back, we took a walk to the closest boat ramp & to the other nearby campsites on the Lake to check out places where we could launch the kayaks. The peak temperature and lower wind gusts weren’t forecast to occur until 4 to 6 p.m., so we figured we’d go out on the Lake then.
We had lunch and set up the chairs outside by the Lake. We sat around outside until it got too cold. (It was nice when the wind was quiet, but the gusts made it a bit hard to sit out there for too long.) Didn’t seem to bother the ducks, geese, and the little tree swallows which were flying rapidly into and out of nests by the fishing dock. The Canada Goose family visited again.

We stayed inside, took our showers, and decided not to kayak this afternoon since it had only reached 52 degrees and the wind did not die down in time. Made our dinner, read our books, and headed to bed. Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain and be windy all day, so we’ll probably drive up to the Great Lakes to see lighthouses and maybe photograph some covered bridges. Who knows what else we’ll find……
