Day 78 – Oh my goodness, it’s the beginning of Week Twelve; we’ll be going home soon. Time to start planning another trip, LOL. The high yesterday was 69 degrees but it’s not going to reach 50 degrees today. Feeling at home being in the North once again. We had a quiet night & had the heat on for the first time in months; it was 47 degrees at 8 a.m. this morning that was as warm as it got during the day.
The girls like it here because there’s no one around except the pair of Canada Geese who floated by on the Lake with their babies. The group also later walked through the campsite next to us.
Later we drove into Andover and went to the post office to pick up the mail which we’d had forwarded to us there. Nice town with a village square. We drove through the other places with the Pymatuning State Park signs & found numerous boat launches, some with large parking lots; an archery range; fishing piers; an entire “village” of cabins for rent, some already inhabited by fishermen; pizza joints, one located inside a covered bridge; and a small sandy beach for swimming with a parking lot almost the size of a city block. Evidently in season, this area gets quite a lot of business!
We drove East across the Lake over the causeway to the Pennsylvania side. The rain & wind had picked up and there were white caps on the Lake with waves splashing up onto the sides of the causeway. We drove along the North side of the Lake in PA and discovered another large campground which had been part of the Pymatuning State Park complex. It had been closed for awhile due to lack of funding, and sadly, the place was overgrown, picnic tables were rotting, and the whole place was just sitting there, falling apart. Turned around and drove South along the Lake; big waves coming in and some areas nearly flooding. Another campground is closed, part of the Pymatuning complex, but we couldn’t tell if this was permanent or temporary. At the lower end of the Lake, the fourth campground appeared to be open.
The rain continued as we went through small towns on the Lake and crossed back into Ohio. We got out the map of this County, Ashtabula County, and saw that several barn quilt locations were nearby. This driving tour took us through a rural area with farmlands and small roads, and as we stopped to take pictures of the barns, we encountered almost no traffic whatsoever.
We made our way back North on the OH side of the Lake and went back to the RV. The cats didn’t seem to know we’d been gone. It was very muddy out and the rain ended around early evening. Supposed to be 40 degrees tonight.
