Day 26 – The girls adapted well to the change of locale, even though there’s much more activity (cars & people) at this campground than previously. Are they getting used to this lifestyle, too? Temperature at 6 a.m. was 45 degrees; it’s supposed to be cooler today and tomorrow. Headed out at 10:15 for a day outside while the weather is good – supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow – going to scout the wildlife refuges in the area, and there are many!

Day 25 – Happy Trails to Us. I think we’re going to see some alligators soon; I just know it! Heading South below Charleston, SC today. Staying there for a few days before heading into Georgia. 60 degrees and sunny, no wind at 6:45 a.m. The girls are happily settled in after breakfast, not knowing they’ll be traveling again.

Day 24 – Cooler this morning (47 degrees, sunny and still). I joined Rob for the morning walk; lots of bird activity, bugs not biting yet. We like our new campsite.

Day 23 – Every morning since we arrived at this campground Rob has been going to the same place along the River where he can try to photograph the resident bald eagle that comes here to hunt for breakfast. Today he came back from his morning walk, happy with his pictures.

Day 22 – A beautiful sunny day as Week Four begins for us in South Carolina. Rob took his morning constitutional with coffee and camera in hand. Came back saying he probably got 1,000 bug bites and at times they were just swarming in mass. With that bit of information, we decided not to go kayaking in the early morning. There’s no wind right now and 55 degrees; if a good breeze kicks up later, maybe we can go and not be eaten alive.

Day 21 – Brilliant sunrise and Rob heads out with the camera. Now as I write and wait for the water to heat for a shower, he’s gone out for a bike ride on the Palmetto Trail. Partly cloudy, around 50 degrees.

Day 20 – We have a long-ish drive today so we got up early in order to get on the road as early as possible. 5:45 a.m. and 39 degrees. By the time we finished packing up, dumped tanks, did the trash, and refilled some fresh water, etc., we departed at 8:05 a.m., 40 degrees, sunny & clear. Stopped in Jacksonville, NC to get propane, that and the gas and lunch stops made it even longer. Restless cats. Arrived campground in South Carolina 2:50 p.m. (trip took 6 hrs. 45 min.) and the high was 61 degrees and sunny. Continue reading
