Day 19 – 36 degrees and windy at 7 a.m. Rob took the camera and went for a walk to the River at sunrise. He came back practically frostbitten due to the wind chill. Then we checked the weather situation at home and he no longer felt so cold. 15 degrees at 7:30 a.m. (in Highland, NY) and tonight it will be 6 degrees. Thank you, Carol, for the weather forecasts! Puts things in perspective.

Day 18 – Took a drive today, heading about an hour South to Cedar Point and the area known as Emerald Isle. Cedar Point is at the lower part of Croatan National Forest and there’s a campground we wanted to check out. It is open all year; the one we’re staying at now opens in March and closes for the Winter. For future trips we need to find campgrounds open all year. Cedar Point is a very nice, clean campground, by the water like this one we’re at now, more open than this one but there are still private sites. The trees are older and bigger here, further South, probably more logging done where we are now. We marked down our favorite sites because when you reserve in advance, you can pick your site. Day 17 – BIG thunderstorm here last night, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain. Woke us up and we quickly closed the windows. 7 a.m. this morning, 62 degrees and the temperature is still dropping – windy, cloudy, and cool. Not sure how much we’ll be doing outside today! Looked at the weather at home and saw that the power was out from very heavy winds. Continue reading
Day 16 – It started getting windy last night and the waves were loudly crashing; 66 degrees at 6:15 a.m. We think it would be exciting to stay here thru the storm, but it wouldn’t be safe in the RV. We’re heading for another campground in North Carolina (we’ve become attached to this State!): Flanners Beach Campground at the Neuse River Recreation Area. It’s 3 hours from here on a river. We’ll head North to get off the barrier islands, then West through Roanoke Island and across the top of the Alligator National Wildlife Refuge, turning South past New Bern. New country to explore.
