Day 17 – BIG thunderstorm here last night, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain. Woke us up and we quickly closed the windows. 7 a.m. this morning, 62 degrees and the temperature is still dropping – windy, cloudy, and cool. Not sure how much we’ll be doing outside today! Looked at the weather at home and saw that the power was out from very heavy winds.
Started clearing up around 11 a.m., and we headed out to get some information on good kayaking places. There was a forest ranger station nearby and we picked up lots of brochures. Decided to check out Brice Creek, north and west of where we are camped and found a great place for kayaking. Took pictures of the area and a few inhabitants.

The wind picked up and we headed back to the campground. We’ll see how the weather is tomorrow and hopefully kayak then. It’s a beautiful creek, swampy in places and the water is black. Had lunch, sat outside a little bit but it got too windy. High 61 degrees, partially cloudy, windy.
We went for a bicycle ride later – great trails throughout and around the campground, then sat out for maybe an hour until it got too cool. Encountered 1 mosquito so far; no complaints about the bugs yet! It will be in the 30’s tonight; that’ll keep the bugs at bay.
Ted & I love all of your pictures and accompanying narratives. I feel as though I am reading Steinbeck’s “Travels with Charley” (required reading in 7th grade), but enjoying it ever more so!
“Philomina” is doing wonderfully in my kitchen. “Prickley” (your succulent) is very happy in the south window of my LR, and “Noel” (the Christmas cactus) has one flower left from its last blooming, with 4 more buds coming. I am watering them sparingly, once a week.

Ah, thanks, Carol and Ted! I was afraid that my NY friends might not have time to read. We both loved “Travels with Charley” and the subtitle of this blog, “Travels with Cats” came from there. To be grouped even anywhere close to that is the best compliment. So happy to hear you like your new plants and they’ve found a happy, compatible home! Funny, I named my first 3 plants, too. I had been afraid to have a plant, that I’d kill it; but they lived and thrived and soon there were too many to find names for, and to keep track of those names, forget about it! But most importantly, I miss you, too.
So everything properly reboots when the power goes out? (furnace, router and all? Because here at home, I sometimes have to still manually reset 🙁 so I always feel “unsafe” to have no one for really long stretch of times! like one of the garage doors also “open” after power outages sometimes…)… Anyway I assume everything is good since I am reading this way after the facts 🙂 and wondering about those 2 “protrusions” on the RV!!!
So far everything has come come back up after a few power outages, but I worry about it too. The “protrusions” are called slideouts and come out using electric motors. We slide them out when we are stopped to give more room in the RV, then slide them in for driving.
