ONWARD TO INDIANA.

Day 77 – Around 7:15 this morning, it was 54 degrees & raining; it had rained most of the night. We took our time packing up. Our drive won’t be too long today. We’ll be leaving southeastern Illinois & crossing the border into western Indiana. We’re stopping over to stay one night in New Harmony, IN to help make the next day’s trip shorter. Then we’ll be staying for 4 nights at Charlestown, IN, a convenient place to stay when visiting my daughter, Pam, in Louisville, KY.

110 miles, (2:05), 36518-36628

We departed Ferne Clyffe State Park at 10:50 a.m. after dumping tanks. It was 55 degrees & very cloudy; it had stopped raining. We drove to our new campground via the “blue” highways except for a short stint on Interstate 64 due to a road closure on the route we’d planned. The roads ran through mostly flat farmlands. We went through a couple of large-ish cities (Marion & Carmi, IL) and many very small towns (including Muddy, IL which had a river called Saline running thru it. Was the water muddy or saline in content……) We only took one picture during the drive; it was quite overcast out.

The road we’d planned to take into Indiana was closed, so we went a little farther northeast & got onto I-64 east. We crossed into Indiana when we crossed the Wabash River. Soon thereafter we took Exit 4 south to Harmonie State Park. The countryside was beautiful with rolling hills, farms & woods. We arrived at the campground at 12:55 p.m., overcast, humid & 63 degrees. We’d camped here for one night last year when we were on the way to visit Pam; we just requested the same site we’d had then. We checked in & drove to site #118. Several campsites nearby were occupied with a large group, partying & kids. Nope, the campground was large enough & empty enough, we figured we could find another location. We drove around and found a small loop that was completely empty, off to the side, no one was near. Most of the campsites that were occupied were in the full-hook up section or all clustered around in the close vicinity to the shower/restroom buildings. Our shower & restroom in the RV work just fine, thank you very much. So we chose site #164 & called the campground office to see if it was okay if we made the switch. Yes, it was, so we had lunch, unpacked, and set up.

When Rob was getting water & hooking us up for electricity, all four girls were having little tantrums at the door again. I couldn’t help myself & took another picture. Too cute.  The high today was 67 degrees. It’s supposed to rain tonight & all day tomorrow with the wind picking up tomorrow, too. We’re looking forward to seeing Pam and the Grand-Doggies!

I’m really coming back! I promise!

Harmonie State Park: We stayed at this Park for one night last year, so I won’t do another campground review, but for more information follow this link,   Sunday, March 18, 2018. The only differences this year were that we were on site #164 & there was water available for dumping. We would come back again since it’s a convenient stopover before Louisville.
