Day 76 – It rained fairly hard most of last night. A bit muddy out this morning. Very cloudy, humid, 65 degrees when we got up. I put together a grocery list while Rob checked into where to go to get a new battery for the RV. The last time we went to start the RV, it was dead – not the internal golf-cart batteries which run the main RV house systems (house batteries), but the chassis battery which is used to start & run the RV engine. It took awhile to get the old battery out of the vehicle, partly because of its awkward position under the middle entrance step, and mostly because this was the original battery installed at Winnebago when she was being built. Of course, our fingers were crossed that it was just the battery that needed replacing, not a much bigger problem that needed to be fixed (like the starter needed to be replaced).
Off to Caribou, ME and the Ford dealership, about a 25-minute drive. They did have the battery we wanted in stock but did not have the other items we needed. (Rob had to cut the extremely-stubborn bolt on the battery terminal – YAAA Dremel tool, so we needed to buy a new terminal adaptor.) We found these items at the second auto parts store we tried. It was a nice drive on Route 1 to get to Caribou and then back to Presque Isle for the grocery shopping. We got all that was on the list at one store except for our bread – that chore is saved for tomorrow when the freshly-baked bread is available at the Amish store in Easton.
Back to the RV, I put up the groceries & Rob installed the new battery. YES, the RV started immediately. Happy days are here again! We made lunch, then headed out to the screened tent for the afternoon. The high today was 82 degrees, humid, partly cloudy. More rain to come during the next few days which should get rid of the humidity again. More campers departed & more new ones arrived. Next to us, replacing the burper & company, we got a family of 4. Tomorrow there will be a report on them, LOL.
