Day 50 – August in northern NH has been a surprise for us. It’s still the height of Summer, but there are few bugs & the weather isn’t too hot. We didn’t expect to be able to take walks or bike or kayak without bug spray, let alone sit outside with our books. Maybe it would be worse, bug-wise, if we were directly on the water instead of a little walk from the Pond? But whatever, this is pretty nice.
Still with zero connectivity, it’s weird to not hear the various phone beeps for texts, e-mails, etc. With no internet, we can’t check the weather so we are playing it by ear, wanting to go kayaking but definitely not during a thunderstorm. The drive to where there is a signal so we can call CA to check on things is not too far away. And the view we get when driving down the hill & back up again is amazing. Today we moved from site #13 to site #15, dumping tanks and getting a tank of fresh water beforehand.
We were up by 7:30 a.m. after a good night’s sleep. Had our coffee & hung around. 60 degrees & cloudy. We’d settled in at the new campsite by 11 a.m. and Rob set up the screened tent since we hoped to be here for at least five more nights, then probably reserve more nights here. There are excellent kayaking opportunities near here with so many lakes. We sat in the screened tent until lunch time, went inside for our sandwiches, then back outside for awhile until leaving to make our phone call & check for messages. The high today was 76 degrees, cloudy, breezy, & humid with a few sprinkles of rain now & then.
After dinner we went for a walk just before it got dark. We’d heard the Loons calling so we went down to the Pond. There were two floating around together, calling back & forth to others farther away, either in this Pond or the bigger one just north of here. Really beautiful. A couple of campers came in today, one a couple with a tent & another parked their smaller RV in site #13 where we’d stayed the last two nights. So now there are 4 other campers besides us. Waiting to see what the weekend is like.
