Day 88 – We were up by 7:45 this morning, 34 degrees & sunny. The fires rage on in Southern CA.  A campground we’d planned to stay at in early January was destroyed last night when the fire reached the Ocean. We’re staying here another night, then going a short distance to just below Mendocino, to stay in an independent RV park with full hook-ups for several nights. Gotta clean out the tanks, and this park is located near some things we wanted to do.

Gracie posed beautifully this morning when Rob pulled out the camera.

Rob took a walk to take our payment to the ranger’s station. He brought his camera because he was determined to get some pictures of several birds he’d seen around – a Rufous-Sided Towhee & some California Quail. And he happened to find those birds and came back with a bunch of photos taken of them. It’s a birder’s paradise here.

We went into Fort Bragg to a couple of health stores to get some groceries. Came back to the RV, put the groceries up, made lunch, and then decided to find a secluded spot by the Ocean to sit out & read our books. It actually reached 60 degrees this afternoon, lovely day, not windy, few clouds. We drove to the boardwalk at the State Park, but there were too many people around, so we drove up the coast & found a great place on a cliff above the Ocean. We sat outside for a couple of hours. Rob thought he saw a whale. They are migrating south for the winter now. There was a nice house on a cliff across from us; it blended in well with the area & we thought it would look nice on our land in Maine, ho ho.  So we took a picture so we’d remember what it looked like. A nice lady stopped and talked to us for at least an hour. She’d been taking a vegan cooking class in Fort Bragg & was on her way to her family’s farm in central CA. She’d been taking a break from caregiving for her elderly parents. Otherwise, we didn’t see anyone else & just watched the waves break over the rocks below & took a nap.

The girls love it here with the sun on the windows. We hope that our next campsites have that advantage for them, also. Tomorrow we head south a little more.
