LAST DAY AT LA SCIE.
Day 115 – Last night it rained most of the night. This morning when we got up, it was very cloudy and windy, and warmer than it has been at 61 degrees. We were surprised to see the sun come out for several hours this morning. It was just beautiful out, but the forecast was for thunderstorms and heavy rain.
When we were here in 2019, we saw Humpback Whales almost daily, and plenty of Bald Eagles. This trip here we haven’t seen a single whale, although we’ve heard from several people that there were many Humpback Whales here last week, up until the night before we arrived. We’re guessing the Capelin are no longer in the harbor. Strange though, since we are here almost exactly the same time as in 2019, just one week earlier. In addition, the weather has been much cooler, with more fog and rain than in 2019. Also, there has been much less fishing activity out of La Scie this year and no squid-jigging. Maybe that’s due to the stricter fishing quotas they are having this year. Guess you can never tell!
The clouds rolled in around lunch time. Rob went out to the cliff’s edge to get pictures of the scenery before the sun disappeared. At that time, a Bald Eagle flew over, as it was being harassed by Sea Gulls.

The campground was more crowded Thursday and Friday. This morning several sites were empty again as people left for their next destination. The nationality of campers here has been mostly French-speaking people from the province of Quebec, or people from the province of Ontario in Canada. We haven’t seen many Americans at all this year.
Not knowing the weather was going to be so nice this morning, we stayed at the campground. We did a load of laundry and caught up on some paperwork. The girls spent the afternoon sleeping on the warm laundry, their favorite pastime. The nice morning weather went downhill later, and we thought those predicted thunderstorms were on their way. Then it cleared up again; then it clouded up with the winds increasing, and so on. The clouds were beautiful as the sky darkened. The high today was 72 degrees until the sun set, then it got colder rapidly. Tomorrow we leave La Scie for a two-night stopover at Deer Lake. So glad the road will be improved for our drive in the RV back to the Trans Canada Highway!
