ANN D. – THINKING OF YOU WITH THESE FIRES BEING SO CLOSE!! BE SAFE!!
Day 30 – We got up around 8 a.m., 48 degrees & cloudy, looks like rain is coming this way. Anyway, we’ll be heading south in a bit. New territory to cover.
Boice Cope County Park, 92850 Boice Cope Rd., Langlois, OR, (541) 373-1555, http://www,co.curry.or.us/Departments/Parks/Boice-Cope-Park. They do have a check-in & check-out time but they don’t adhere to it. We found this park by accident when driving south on Highway 101 & stopping at the New River Nature Center, a few miles north of this park. We decided to check it out, not expecting much, and what a gem it is! We stayed 5 nights at $20 per night. There are less than 20 RV sites around a grassy circle which is surrounded thickly with trees. There is decent space between sites. All of these RV sites have electricity & water hook-ups. There is a dump station, restrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. There’s a separate area in a circle for tents or group camping, no hook-ups. There are also additional sites nestled in the trees without hook-ups, a few for tents & a few for RV’s. The entire area overlooks the New River which drains into the Floras Lake. There is a boat launch with a way to get to both the River side & the Lake. Behind the River & Lake is a sand dune and behind that is the Ocean. All are close by. You are between the scenic cities of Port Orford and Bandon and close to the Nature Center. When the wind is right, kite-boarders & sail-boarders camp here; we’ve heard that the winter storms are spectacular and that people come just to watch the waves. We had site #11. All sites are good. There is no doubt we’ll return here, maybe to watch those winter storms.
A travelling day – it’s been awhile since we changed campgrounds. Not a huge journey, we won’t be having those again for quite awhile. Off to Gold Beach & the Rogue River for a week.
Getting closer to the California border. Our new campground will be Secret Camp RV Park, 3 miles inland from Gold Beach on the Rogue River in Oregon. This is a small campground, which appears to be what we prefer. The site we picked doesn’t have a number, it’s called the Honeymoon site; we guess it’s called that because it’s so private. Nestled in the trees right by a creek (which doesn’t have much water in it this time of year), you can drive a ways in & be completely by yourself. The site is large & has electric and water; there’s a dump station at the Park. We booked it for a week & got a discount; we figured we’d be here that long or close to it anyway. There are hiking trails & the Rogue River is right across the road; you are only several miles from town. World-class fishing, they say. The other sites at this campground vary, some more in the open, others in the trees, some back-in, some pull-throughs, some with full hook-ups or electric plus water, some without hook-ups, some for larger vehicles, some for tents. You can take your pick. Nice, quiet place, definitely not just a parking lot.
We departed Boice Cope at 11:45 a.m ; it was 58 degrees, cloudy and a little windy. The waves were crashing, some surfers were out in the Ocean. We arrived at Secret Camp RV Park at 12:40 p.m., We set up camp, had lunch then headed outside to sit in the woods with our books. It never got warmer than that; the wind picked a bit more later in the afternoon. There’s a nip in the air, like fall is arriving. We saw online that it’ll be cold – in the 30’s tonight at home.
The campground is small, quite wooded, and nice. Our site is very private. We parked the RV pretty far into the woods. The picnic table and fire pit are located all the way in, overlooking the creek. But, the down side: most of the afternoon there was machinery noise, a chainsaw or lawnmower or something like that, and dogs from around the neighborhood I guess, they don’t sound close by, but they’ve been barking almost constantly. This is just the first afternoon; we’ll see how it goes. Too bad, it’s really a lovely campsite….

I’m really loving these. What a wonderful experience!!
