TRAVEL DAY

From: Cunningham Falls State Park, Manor Area Campground, Thurmont, MD.

To: Trap Pond State Park, Laurel, Delaware (DE).

Day 393 – It was 42 degrees, sunny and breezy, when we got up around 7 a.m. this morning. We’re feeling back to normal, so no dilly-dallying around. We’ve got a drive to Delaware today.

Cumulative Travels from 10/11/2021 to 11/08/2022, 12826 miles, 48780-61606

We departed Cunningham Falls State Park at 10 a.m. It was noticeably cooler today than yesterday. Still gorgeous out. The drive began on narrow, twisty roads in mountainous terrain and ended on long, straight highways in flat farmland. We crossed the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and later crossed the border into Delaware. We aren’t far from the Atlantic Ocean now. While here, we’ll be visiting Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in DE and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in MD, and we’re hoping that the migrating waterfowl have arrived. We have relatives here and should have good visits with them. Also, we’ll be going to the Waterfowl Festival this coming weekend in Easton, MD.

After stopping for gas in the RV, we arrived at Trap Pond State Park. It was 1:25 p.m., sunny and breezy, and 60 degrees. After checking in but before going to our campsite, we dumped tanks and filled up with drinking water. Our campsite, #D04, was a nice one but oddly shaped. We played dodge-a-tree to get the RV into the site. (With fallen leaves covering the ground, you couldn’t see where the roads were and where the campsite was. We had to guess where to park in the vicinity of the post where our campground number was located.) We will be here six nights. There aren’t many people camping here now. The campground will be full later in the week.

We had lunch while the girls settled in, then set up camp. It gets dark so early now with the season and the Daylight Savings Time change. It wasn’t long after we finished everything that it was getting dark. Supposedly Tropical Storm Nicole will be swinging by the Coast beginning Friday. Right now it’s beautiful out.
