CIBOLA NWR 5.
Day 125 – We’ve been gone from home in NY for slightly over 4 months now. We’ve spent the last month in Arizona. Tomorrow we cross the border into California. We’ll be doing a major restocking of food and supplies while we are there, in addition to visiting friends and family.
We got out early this morning to go to Cibola NWR. We’d hoped to catch the geese & cranes moving from the fields to the water, but the pond only contained ducks – a very large amount of ducks. We did not see Coyotes or Owls.

We got some things done in the RV in preparation of leaving tomorrow, made a loaf of bread, and did spend a little time in the tent. The high today was 85 degrees, sunny with a small breeze. Later in the afternoon we went back out to Cibola for a final visit to the main unit and the Marsh unit. Both trips today Cathie and Pete accompanied us by following us in their truck. Cathie is a photographer and we’d hoped to see the owls or the coyotes, but we only saw one coyote off in the far distance. We did get some other good pictures, however. The Refuge is slowly draining the pond, we think in preparation for the Geese and Cranes to migrate north now that it’s getting warmer here. At the Marsh unit we saw a beautiful Cinnamon Teal, a Snowy Egret, and White Pelicans.

We’ll miss both Cibola National Wildlife Refuge and Oxbow Recreation Area BLM Campground. Both our visits in 2018, and this one in 2022, were excellent. Thanks to Cathie and Pete for joining us! We will be back.
