AFTER THE STORM.

Day 107 – It was a pretty day today, pleasant with a high of 65 degrees and a little windy, but the clouds were big and billowy. We drove to Pembroke this morning to get our last two containers of crab for the season. We’re going to try to fill the rest of our freezer with the wonderful Cobscook Bay Scallops that are caught here. We need a lot of them for the coming year until we can get back up here again. On the drive this morning we saw plenty of rushing water in the streams and big puddles by the roads, trees down, and one of them was lying on downed utility wires. To us, the damage from a full-on hurricane is unimaginable.

Rob went back out to the cliff this morning, having missed yesterday’s coffee time out there. There was a lot of foam on the Harbor, maybe sea foam from the ocean during the storm? He got an updated look at the mushroom we’ve been watching – it’s looking older now. Click any picture below to see a slideshow.

A few more pictures from day 10:

We’re going to be putting a gate (of sorts) across the entrances to our land. We want to do this before we leave this year, since we aren’t sure when we’ll get back up here. Since we have evidence that people have driven and parked on the land, possibly even camped here this year, we want to discourage others from using our property. The only way to do that is to make it obvious this is not public property. Rob spent some of this afternoon researching various barriers, from rope to steel cable, and he took some measurements. He has finished all the other RV improvement projects that he’d been working on during this trip. The cleaning up of the forest is ongoing.
