Day 9 – 51 degrees, 7 a.m., FOGGY.  And it stayed foggy until close to 4 p.m.  There goes the view!  LOL.  We’d forgotten about the fog since it was so beautiful & clear here yesterday.  It’s usually foggy much of the time we’re here; the day we arrived was somewhat of a shock.  Well, fog has its own charms, but I wished we could see the water.  It only got to 58 degrees.

Rob had his first morning coffee at the cliff’s edge, normally a daily ritual when we’re here.  The girls are settled in & happy.

We kept busy today, first making a loaf of bread, then going outside to check potential home sites.  We need to begin lining up the contractors we’ve called for interviews, so we have to decide on our home site & which house plan we want to present to them (we’re up to four house plans now).  Then hopefully we can start getting some estimates & see if this is really doable on our budget.

Keeping the 75-foot shoreland zoning setback in mind, it was immediately obvious which site worked best for us, deciding on the one on a high point of land which had already been partially cleared for the RV pad.  The view from there was very good and minimal trees would be disturbed.  We marked the corners of the site with colored surveyor’s tape.

Back inside the RV, we spent many hours reinventing the wheel, going over our house plans on the computer & tweeking every detail.  We finally settled on plan 4 when everything had been moved around & worked on even down to furniture placement, windows, doors & skylights had been added, a roof line had been decided on, even deciding the best place to put the cat’s litter boxes.  Rob also did the elevation drawings, and we will be printing the entire package for potential contractors when they come out to look at the site.  In order to have all our places for storage, closets, cabinets, etc., AND have enough room to move around freely, we did have to enlarge a little bit, but we’re still not making a very large footprint on the land.  We’ll know if we can actually do this by the end of this trip to Maine.

We’re back to eating at home now that we’re settled in.  We’d made a large batch of vegetarian chili before leaving for this trip, so we thawed that & had a quick dinner.  Minds full of thoughts & tired from all the planning, we went to bed early.
