HAPPY FATHER’S DAY EVERYONE; THIS INCLUDES THOSE WITH PETS!

Day 60 – It was 38 degrees this morning with dense fog. There’s a folk song we heard in Newfoundland several times when we were here in 2019; it’s called “Grey Foggy Day”. We wonder where they got the idea for this song?! https://youtu.be/uY2nVUXeXzY

The high today was 40 degrees and it remained very foggy. When we were driving out of the campground around noon, we saw a group of campers by the road, all with cameras pointed to some rocks in the campground. Driving slowly by, we saw a beautiful Arctic Fox, watching the people as he/she eased away from the area. This was our first-ever sighting of an Arctic Fox.

We went over to Bang Belly again for lunch. It’s close to the campground and the food is great. We split appetizers of Corn & Cod Chowder & Caesar Salad. We both got the Fish ‘n Chips for lunch, and we both agree that the Fish, the Fries, and the Cole Slaw were the best we’ve ever had.

After lunch we took a drive down a peninsula we didn’t go to yesterday and visited the two villages of Deep Bay & Island Harbour. Both were far enough away from the main route most people take that they remained quiet, and it appeared they don’t get visited as much as the other towns. There were houses perched on large boulders overlooking the Ocean. Many of the old cottages had colorful fish stages at the water’s edge with rickety boardwalks leading to them. If it hadn’t been so densely fogged in, pictures would’ve been great. We also drove back again through the villages of Joe Batt’s Arm and Tilting, just in case the fog lifted. It did not. We only took a few pictures altogether.

On the way back to the RV, we stopped and picked up two Lemon Drop Cookies from Punch Buggy for tonight. When we were getting the cookies, the man at the counter reported that various whales had been spotted in nearby bays within the last few days. We’re hoping to see whales, too – less fog would help! Fingers crossed.

AND THEN: Two icebergs & three Minke Whales later, by 6;30 p.m., things had gotten interesting at our campsite. We were playing Sequence at the dining room table (which looks out over the cove). We’d had a hard time concentrating on the game. The Northern Gannets were diving straight down into the water, going after the fish. The fog was going in and out, and at one point, two icebergs were visible from the RV. Then three Minke Whales showed up close in the cove; they were also looking for dinner along with the Gannets. I’d thought we had finished with today’s blog post, but we opened it back up to add our latest sightings. A great way to finish the day!
