LAST DAY AT TWILLINGATE.

Day 57 – Surprisingly, the temperature this morning at 6:45 a.m. was 50 degrees. Ever changing! There was no wind, but it rained most of the morning. Tomorrow morning we will be getting up early in order to catch a ferry to our next campground – six nights on isolated Fogo Island, one of several places that we decided were our favorite experiences from our last trip to Newfoundland. We’re looking forward to it!

Since we’re leaving Twillingate tomorrow morning, we wanted to make another trip to Sansome & Son’s, hoping to get there when they first opened for lunch at noon. We had to try the Seafood Fettuccini, and the restaurant fills up quickly. We left the RV at 11:40 a.m. We ran into a snag when cars were stopped ahead of us, waiting because of road work. When we finally turned onto the narrow road that would take us to the harbor and Sansome & Son’s, the car in front of us, and the car behind us, were also headed to the restaurant. There was a race for the front door. Uh oh, will the restaurant already be full?

Nope, even though we got there later than planned, we got in. It was totally worth the drive and the rush. We were seated by the window where we looked out over the bay and inlets. The water was like glass, broken only by the light raindrops and the Sea Gulls and Terns diving for fish. Speaking of fish, the Seafood Fettuccini was chock-full of seafood – bits of Cod, Shrimp, Crab, Scallops, Lobster, and 2 Mussels per large bowl heaped with pasta. The sauce was a light pink cream sauce, not too rich, and for once there was plenty of sauce. Two pieces of garlic bread accompanied the pasta & were great for dipping into the sauce. It was outstanding – some of the best pasta we’ve ever had. They did not skimp on the fish which was SO fresh. (I don’t care for Mussels. I did try one, and even though they were very fresh, I still don’t care for Mussels. I gave my second Mussel to Rob. This made him happy.) A review online had raved about their homemade Cheesecake. We each got a piece (with blueberries) to take home for dinner.

On the way back to the campground, we checked out the Icebergs. They had changed some again, and several are melting faster than we thought they would. There were one or two new ones. People were still lined up to take pictures; it was fun to see them so excited. We know how they feel. Grin.

Back at the RV, it was 2 p.m. and 55 degrees. It had stopped raining and occasionally there was a little sun. We worked on chores around the RV, including getting as many things as possible ready for leaving tomorrow.

From the Newfoundland/Labrador Traveller’s Guide 2023: “Twillingate embodies everything Newfoundland and Labrador outports are famous for: rugged coastline, picturesque streets, and lush countryside roads. In the waters off the coast, look for whales, dolphins, seabirds, and – if the season is right – icebergs. Twillingate sits in the heart of Iceberg Alley.”

NOTE: It’s entirely probable that we won’t have an internet signal on Fogo Island beginning tomorrow morning & until the following Thursday afternoon.
