TRAVEL DAY

To: Notre Dame Provincial Park, Lewisporte, NL.

Day 50 – The low last night was 41 degrees. We saw that there was a little less ice pack in front of the RV than there was when we arrived here last Saturday. But we doubt it will all be gone by this Saturday. We took our time getting ready to leave this morning. We won’t have hook-ups at the Park we’re going to, so we took long showers and washed our hair.

Nine years ago today, the girls came to live with us; they were just babies, two of them each below 1 pound in weight. We have enjoyed their company more than they’ll ever know. Once we get to our new campground today, we’ll be celebrating with them – extra tuna & lots of playing with toys.

We departed King’s Point RV Park at 11:35 a.m. The fog was gone. Fancy that! It was 46 degrees and cloudy. No wind. We drove from the campground to TCH-1. It was much more green than it was when we arrived last Saturday. We got on the main highway and headed east. There was little traffic, and not once did we encounter road work. We kind of expected to see more towns & cities along TCH-1 but no sprawl yet. As we approach St. John’s, we’re sure there will be lots of people. In addition to the green trees and bushes, the healthiest Dandelions we’ve ever seen lined the highway in places. There were lots of lakes on both sides of the road and it was heavily wooded with some rolling hills. We did drive through what was supposed to be a big city, Grand Falls-Windsor, but we sure didn’t see much of it. We stopped for a gas fill-up in the RV and we also stopped at a pull-out for a lunch break. Then we continued driving until we saw a sign for our campground. It was located just off the main highway; convenient.

We arrived at Notre Dame Provincial Park at 2:10 p.m. It was 57 degrees and mostly cloudy, still no wind. Those of you that have been following our journeys for a while will remember we had trouble with the RV steps on our previous trip to British Columbia and the western U.S. Rob had worked on it while we were on the trip, and he greased the mechanism before we left on this trip. When we arrived at the campground, the steps didn’t come out again. So he was back to working on the steps while I unpacked the inside of the RV. Sigh.

Amazingly, later in the afternoon the clouds disappeared, the sun came out, and it got up to 63 degrees. We are inland now and it’s warmer. We have all the windows open for the first time in awhile. There are some bugs, those darn biting black flies, but that’s to be expected in the woods away from the ocean wind. About half of the campground is almost empty – the section without hook-ups; the section with hook-ups is more crowded, but it is early in the camping season. We were here in late July in 2019 and it was wall-to-wall people. It’s quite different this time. We have a nice campsite, #67, with no one camping near us. We have a nice view of the lake. We’re on the opposite side of the campground this time, not near the highway and away from the playgrounds and the swimming area of the Park. The girls like it, and we do, too.
