TRAVEL DAY
From: Singing Hills RV Park and Campground, Cave City, KY.
To: Charlestown State Park, Charlestown, Indiana (IN).
Day 383 – It was 45 degrees at 6:55 a.m. this morning when we got up. Our drive today from the campground in Cave City was north on mostly interstate highways through Kentucky. We’ll be staying in Indiana (IN) north and a little east of Louisville, KY, across the Ohio River.

We departed Singing Hills RV Park at 8:35 a.m. It was 50 degrees and mostly sunny with little wind. I-65 was rough-going as we approached and went through Louisville. None of us were happy about that. The trees were past peak in northern KY, but otherwise the terrain, the rolling hills, were similar to Tennessee. Of course, this area of KY is horse country – the Kentucky Derby and all – and it’s also Bourbon Country; there were plenty of billboards with advertisements for Distillery Tours and various Bourbons. We like Louisville. It’s a huge city, but parts of it are quite upscale and we like visiting Pam here. It appears to be continuing to grow and thrive, considering the neighboring communities and the growth we’ve seen in them.

We had an errand to run before reaching the new campground, and on this journey we passed from Central Time to Eastern Time, causing us to lose an hour. We needed to pick up our mail at the Charlestown, IN post office before they closed at noon. We made it in time, got gas in the RV, and arrived early at Charlestown State Park at 11:50 a.m. (eastern time). We had reservations for four nights. We arrived before check-in time but they let us in anyway.

When we made reservations weeks ago, we were surprised to find there were only two campsites left for the weekend. We drove through the large campground to find our site, #17, and the campground was completely full up. The roads were crowded with people. The parking lots were all full. Turns out it was the day/night of their big Halloween celebration. Almost all campers had tables with candy out by the road and they’d decorated their sites for Halloween.
We set up camp and made lunch, sat around for a couple of hours relaxing, then left to meet Pam at CoreLife Eatery near Charlestown. Our campground was packed – a zoo – glad our big black cat wasn’t an outdoor cat!
We spent several hours at CoreLife with Pam and enjoyed ourselves. The food there is healthy and always good. We all had design-your-own salads, and Pam & I each had a cup of soup. We made plans to see Pam and the dogs tomorrow, then she headed out to meet a friend, and we drove back to the RV. It was dark when we got back and the Halloween parties were in full swing. The girls wanted to know why the heck we brought them to this noisy place where monsters run around yelling. We apologized and said that we should have our heads examined.
