THE LAST DAY ON QUADRA ISLAND.
Day 289 – We leave tomorrow morning to take the ferry back to Vancouver Island. After seeing the really long line of people waiting on Sunday, we are motivated to get out of here early. This morning we did the final load of laundry and cooked up some meals in advance so that they’d be already prepared when we need them.
It was again supposed to be 90 or 91 degrees and only reached 74. Back on the main Island tomorrow, we’ll probably be more likely to get the warmer temperatures – except we are heading several hours north; that could make a difference and we may miss it entirely. Fingers crossed. We’ll be going to Port Alice in north central Vancouver Island, closer to the west coast than to the east. We’ll be out in the wilderness again, and may not have a signal.
We spent much of the day in the screened tent, then did some chores to get ready to leave as early as possible tomorrow. No breaching whales, no whales at all, but the usual suspects were here – Seals, Sea Lions, Bald Eagle carrying a huge fish in its talons. We will really miss sitting outside near the water everyday.
