LOOKING FOR A SIGNAL.

Day 250 – Like many days lately, there was some rain last night; it was cloudy in the morning, and then there was some sun. We hung around in the morning and headed out after lunch in the RV.

We went back to the town of Lake Cowichan. We’d heard they had a nice library and that you could get a signal there, and that they were fine with you sitting inside and spreading out at a table – much easier and more comfortable than being huddled in the car with our computers. There was a little park nearby, so we wandered around there before spending several hours at the library.

We got a few more days of the blog posted, and then we did some research on the Queen Charlotte Islands. North of Vancouver Island, there’s a large group of islands across from Prince Rupert in northern British Columbia, but a little south of lower Alaska. We’d planned to go from northern Vancouver Island by ferry to Prince Rupert on mainland British Columbia in August, but thought that it would be interesting instead to take several days from that section of our trip and visit that group of Islands. It would only cause us to rearrange our schedule slightly because we are just about to be at the point where we need to begin making reservations for our next set of campgrounds (since the reservation system begins two months before arrival dates).

We went online to make ferry reservations from Prince Rupert to Queen Charlotte Islands, but found they were already 100% booked. That quickly ended the idea! We had no way to get on & off the Islands. Back to Plan B, we checked out the campground east of Prince Rupert in preparation for making a reservation there tomorrow morning promptly at 7 a.m. when the campground reservation battle could begin.

Finished at the library, we went to the Lake Cowichan grocery store and found some more Beyond Burgers to stash in the RV freezer getting us through much of our time in Canada. We took several back roads returning to the RV, driving through areas where lots of the old-growth trees had been left alone and not logged – gorgeous. Once again, as we arrived at the campground, it began to rain heavily.
