TOTEM POLES AND BUCKETS OF RAIN.

Day 248 – It rained all last night and a little while this morning. It didn’t clear up all day but did stop raining long enough for us to drive into the city of Duncan and take a walk on the Totem Pole Walking Tour. We had a map of the tour and drove to the old town section of Duncan, found a parking place, and began our tour. We made it all morning with just sprinkles of rain, then when we got back to the RV at around noon, it started pouring. The heavy rain continued all day.

The direction to walk on the Totem Pole Walking Tour was annotated on the sidewalks and streets with painted yellow footprints. We followed the yellow footprint road and it was fun, plus we learned a lot about the city’s history from the explanatory signs at each totem pole.

As we ended the tour and returned to the starting point at the old train station, we decided to take a little historical tour through the local community at the Cowichan Valley Museum and Train Station.

We had planned to go out to dinner tonight at Lake Cowichan. We didn’t want to wait until the weekend because on top of the normal weekend crowds, there is a big Bluegrass Musical Festival beginning tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. So, in our rain gear we went to dinner at Jake’s at the Lake. We ate lunch outside on the deck overlooking Lake Cowichan last week when we drove the Circle Route road in advance to see if it was something we could do in the RV. We’d seen a dessert on the menu that caught our eyes. Ever since then, we’d wanted to return for “Sex In A Pan”. Yep, that was the name of the dessert.

We first had a couple of drinks to loosen up – a house cocktail made with Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Cranberry Juice and Ginger. Then to put us in the mood, we had an appetizer called French Onion Dip (tortilla chips & chopped vegetables served with a cheesy onion dipping sauce.) Dinner was the Salmon Wrap for Rob and the Caesar Salad for me. Ah, the time had come and dessert was served: Whipped Cheesecake on a Dark Chocolate Crumb Crust piled high with Dark Chocolate Shavings and Whipped Cream. Sex in a pan. Yeah!

Satiated, and early to bed, early to rise, we’re hoping for nice weather in the morning for a drive around the Lake. Heavy rains are supposedly returning tomorrow afternoon, lasting throughout the weekend.
