FAMILY.
Day 200 – NO SIGNAL – we are having problems getting a signal; therefore blog posts may be held up. Sorry! We got together in the afternoon with Rob’s cousins and went out for an early dinner in Astoria. While the other meals we’ve had out with them since we got here had been excellent, this one was exceptional. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who happened to be in the area.Bridgewater Bistro, 20 Basin Street, Astoria, OR, (503) 325-6777, reservations recommended.
For our “foodie” friends, here’s our review: Bridgewater Bistro was a large and spacious restaurant with super-tall ceilings and lots of room between tables. All tables and booths had views overlooking the Columbia River. Service was excellent, our server quite knowledgeable. There were four of us, and we began with a cocktail, wine, or beer dependent on preference (a Lemon Drop [very large] cocktail, Rob’s beer [Vortex IPA], and two of us split a ½ litre EXCELLENT Oregon Red Blend wine. The cousins and Rob & I each split the OUTSTANDING Hungarian Mushroom Soup (with a swirl of sour cream and plenty of paprika). The homemade bread was very good. Because the menu offered so many interesting items to choose from, 3 of us each got two different “small plates” and we tried each others dish. One of the cousins got the fish special of the day, which we all tasted – fresh Halibut cooked perfectly over a Garlic-crisped Cous Cous and fresh Broccolini. It was really good. The small plates we all tasted were Rock Fish Cakes (like crab cakes) with a Louis Aioli; Goat Cheese & Pesto Polenta Cakes; Smoked Salmon Cheesecake with a Sweet Bourbon Marmalade and Pecan Crust; Smoked Tomato Mac ‘n Cheese; Spicy Chili Sauteed Prawns; and regular Grilled Prawns. All tastes were also really good. Then it was time for dessert: also small plates (three desserts for two people = one perfect-sized dessert), we had 1 Berry Cobbler; 2 Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee; 2 Lemon Custard topped with fresh berries; and 1 Chocolate Kahlua Mousse. It was really a perfect meal with all those different items to try, and the company was wonderful. Thanks, both of you!
We hope those reading are now sufficiently hungry and maybe a little jealous, LOL.
