SCENERY & BREAD.

Day 195 – It’s supposed to start raining again tonight, and even though it may be cloudy today and not the best day to do a scenic drive, we figured better now than never.

Our goal had been to do the Three Capes Scenic Drive. Highway 101 leaves the ocean and travels through forests and farm land from Pacific Beach to Tillamook. There is a slower, two-lane road that travels along the coast. It is the road less traveled and the loop is called the 3 Capes Drive. This drive, if you are going north to south, begins at Netarts (where we stopped yesterday) and continues south to Pacific Beach, where it joins the 101.

Before getting on the Scenic Drive, Rob wanted to head back to Cape Meares again, so he could try for more nesting Cormorant pictures in a different lighting. We’re glad we went because he saw a man at the look-out who had been watching a Peregrine Falcon nesting at the cliff opposite the Cormorants. Now Rob had a new subject to photograph.

We drove south on the Capes Drive ending up in Pacific City looking for a place for lunch. The scenery was beautiful. The beaches were crowded. Several people were hang gliding over the trees and ocean. We drove through dense forests and back down to the beach areas again. We saw deer several different times. We stopped to look at a couple of campgrounds while we were in the area.

We had lunch at Grateful Bread Bakery & Cafe in Pacific City. It was an excellent choice. Great food, wonderful baked items, and a very cute place paying tribute to the Grateful Dead. We would absolutely go there again if we were in the area!

Back at the RV, we were not hungry for dinner so we had the bagels we’d bought at the bakery. The high today was 61 degrees and it was mostly cloudy.
