Day 151 – It has been 5 months today since we left our home in New York to begin this trip. We have now stayed at least two nights in 14 different states. Today we’re driving a short distance to a different campground within the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, the Los Banos Creek Campground.

We departed at 10:50 a.m. after dumping tanks and adding some water to the fresh water tank. Our new campground will not have a dumping station or fresh water. We drove thru this campground yesterday when the Ranger from Basalt Campground recommended it with stories of lots of wildlife. What hooked us was that several campsites were right on the water and it was a beautiful, private location.
We arrived at Los Banos Creek Campground 25 minutes later. The kitties said that this was their kind of drive and couldn’t believe we were here already. It was sunny with a light breeze and was 64 degrees. A gorgeous day. The campsite we wanted was available, site #12, on the water and the most private site. It is the weekend, but for now about half the campsites are occupied.

We unpacked, Rob set up the tent by the water, the girls happily settled in, and we had lunch, then spent the entire afternoon by the water in the screened tent. There IS a lot of wildlife here. So far we’ve seen Pied-Billed Grebes, Western Grebes, an Earred Grebe, Mallards, Killdeer, a rabbit, squirrels, Doves, an Osprey, a Red-Tailed Hawk, Bushtits, Golden-Crowned Sparrows, Monarch Butterflies, and Rob heard (but did not see, Hummingbirds) – and that is during half a day. Promising! Today’s high was 76 degrees.
