TRAVEL DAY

From: Burro Creek Recreation Area BLM Campground, Wikieup, AZ.

To: Desert View RV Resort, Needles, CA.

Day 118 – We got up at 7:10 a.m. It was 25 degrees and windy. After dumping tanks at the campground we departed at 9:40 a.m. It was 44 degrees & sunny. We really liked this campground, but after almost a week here, it was time to move on to some birdwatching.

Note: We just discovered that we have been uploading pictures to our blog at full resolution since Jan. 15, 2022. If you have noticed problems loading our blog posts recently, that is probably the reason. We have fixed the issue and things should speed up quite a bit when loading posts from now on.

Our destination today was to be a quick venture into eastern southern California to Needles, CA for a one-night stopover. Tomorrow we will travel back into extreme western Arizona to spend some time at one of our favorite National Wildlife Refuges, Cibola.

The scenery was similar to what we’d already seen in western Arizona, but even more desert-like. We crossed over the Colorado River before entering Needles, CA.

We arrived in Needles at 11:55 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time) after stops for lunch at a rest area, and for gas and propane in the RV. We had never been to this campground before, but it turned out to be an excellent choice for a one-night stopover. The temperature was 70 degrees; it was sunny and very windy.

Desert View RV Resort was one of many private campgrounds in the Needles area. The Colorado River and the popular vacation resort areas like Lake Havasu were close by. Our campground was a little beyond Needles which made it quieter. The campground roads were lined with mature Palm Trees; the individual campsites were separated by thick Oleander Bushes which helped to protect from the wind. We were directed to campsite #27 with full hook-ups. It had been a long time since we’d had hook-ups of any kind. Long showers were in our future. For a “resort” campground, our site was private and quiet. We would stay here again should the need arise on a future trip.
