Day 82 – We wish you all a healthy & happy new year for 2022. We know some of you in particular, had a really bad year in 2021. We wish for you strength, faith, and speedy recoveries. Our thoughts are with you.
Stormy weather greeted us this morning with fairly heavy rain (is this really New Mexico?). The wind supposedly will pick up more as the day goes on and the low tonight is supposed to be 15 degrees. They are getting heavy snow, both east and west of us. (Will the Sandhill Cranes freeze?)
There was a rainbow over Cathie’s trailer this morning. She and Pete left to reach the area where her truck will be worked on. Thanks, Cathie: We enjoyed seeing both of you & hope to do it again soon! Happy Trails.

We actually had snow flurries after Cathie left! (Again, is this New Mexico?? I mean, isn’t this the desert?) Feeling sad to see Cathie & Pete go. They are in search of more adventures; we totally get that. In fact, we had an adventure ourselves after lunch!
Part 2.
We headed out to a place that the owner of the campground, Jose Padilla, recommended. I mean really, could it get any better than Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge? Yes, indeed.
The high today was 41 degrees! We left after lunch to go to the recommended place, LADD-S. (Ladd, S. Gordon Waterfowl Complex, Bernardo Waterfowl Management Area, 40 miles above San Antonio, NM, off I-25.) We kinda felt we should do this complex since it was recommended to us, but after the fantastic opportunities we had at the NWR? Okay, we’ll do it since we should…..
OMG, do not ever discount a recommendation from someone who has lived somewhere for many years! We drove to LADD and drove through, what? Three times? Cathie, if you are reading this, SO sorry we didn’t know about this place enough to take you there. Pictures of this adventure follow:

Okay, so like that wasn’t good enough to get our attention, we watched a snowstorm approach from the west. When you are in BIG SKY TERRITORY, you can see weather coming from afar.
Buried in snow squalls, Rob climbed on the roof of the Honda to take pictures while I worked the video from the car – it was close to freezing, by the way.
As the sun came out again, but with warnings of snow from the distant mountains, we headed south back to the RV, stopping at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge on the way back “home”. We’d driven through here in 2018 and didn’t see much. Ditto, this time but we did get a few pictures.

We drove back to the RV, still in shock from what we’d experienced at LADD. We stopped for gas in the Honda on the way, and were amazed by the changing scenery. It’s snowing in the distance here; it’s snowing in the distance there; it’s snowing HERE! We must say, at this point, that New Mexico is awesome, with the beautiful colors of the tall grasses to the incredible mountains and the valleys. Come see New Mexico! Just sayin’……
