TRAVEL DAY: BATAVIA, OHIO TO CHARLESTOWN, INDIANA.
Day 31 – It was 45 degrees and cloudy at 7:30 a.m. We relaxed in the morning, then packed up to leave. We departed East Fork State Park at 11:25 a.m., after dumping tanks.
The route we took went around Cincinnati, rather than through the city. The sprawl went on for a long time – mostly industrial in nature. Our journey was mostly via interstate highways and of course, there were the obligatory massive traffic jams. Once we crossed into Kentucky, there were more trees, less industry, and the scenery became a little more interesting. Towards the end of the trip, we crossed into Indiana, got on smaller roads, and arrived at our campground at 2:30 p.m.
We didn’t actually travel that many miles, but it took longer due to stops for propane & gas for the RV, and lunch at a rest stop. It warmed up rapidly as the sun replaced the clouds. When we were having lunch, three of the kitties settled down in our driving seats where the sun was beating down through the windshield. They were some contented cats! The high today was 72 degrees.
The campground was large (we’ve stayed here before) and well maintained. There were three camping loops; two were closed. Our campsite, #21, had 50-amp electric hook-ups. But we found that the water for the campground had been turned off. That means we will have to get water for the RV’s tank from a hose at my daughter’s house once or twice during this stay. Two thirds of the campsites were closed for the season, so that’s probably why they turned off the water, it’s off-season. But when it’s 72 degrees out, the pipes are certainly not going to freeze. Being a Wednesday, there were not many campers here.
After we unpacked and set up, we soon left to meet Pam (my daughter) for dinner at CoreLife Eateries. She first introduced us to CoreLife several years ago when we were visiting. We all love this place – very tasty and healthy food. We were excited when we found a CoreLife in upstate New York and went their twice when we were in the area last summer. We had a very nice visit with Pam. We’ll be here for a week and there will be a lot more eating! LOL. Tomorrow we are getting up early and heading out to a Honda dealership for a 7:30 a.m. appointment.
