WONDERFUL CLEANSING RAIN.
Day 44 – It did not rain last night as forecasted, but it did rain steadily from 10:00 this morning throughout most of the day and early evening. Temperatures dropped & remained cool all day. We were glad! We relaxed inside the RV for most of the morning, then drove over to the mainland to Burlington, VT. We are somewhat familiar with the City from when Rob used to travel up to the IBM facility here. But having been away from cities for awhile, the traffic & stoplights were different, to say the least.
There is a great grocery store, actually two of them, in Vermont – City Market. The produce is always fresh and there’s plenty of local food with all the farms around here. We don’t eat meat, but we’ve noticed a generous supply of farm-raised, organic foods, including various meats. It’s a Co-op and significant discounts are offered if you join & shop regularly. They also have a large section of the store which offers freshly baked goods, daily soups, a salad bar, a sandwich station, a hot food bar, ready-made meals & side dishes, and locally-made food products. The stores are popular and very busy.
We got groceries for the next four weeks (except for a few produce items we’ll need to pick up here and there). We also grabbed freshly-made sandwiches at the sandwich station: two Caprese on fresh baguettes (heirloom tomatoes, spinach, fresh mozzarella, and plenty of basil pesto – VERY good). We contentedly drove back to Grand Isle & the RV, job done.
It continued raining, and we relaxed in the RV. To reward ourselves for who-knows-what, we got pizza to-go for dinner from a little place not far from the campground, called Pan’s Pizza. You never know what you’re going to get when you’re not familiar with a place, and this place was excellent! We just may get pizza again from them before we leave.
