KAYAKING THE RIVER, DAY 2.
Day 37 – It’s warming up. 50 degrees this morning, partly cloudy. We went back to the Magalloway River near Errol again, but launched at a different location. This gave us new territory to cover. By the time we got in the water it was almost 70 degrees. There wasn’t much of a breeze and it was a lot warmer today.
We liked this launch site better – much easier to put in & take out. Usually it’s pretty busy but there weren’t any people there this time. We saw another duck family – Black Ducks – and they were frolicking in the water, diving & splashing, just have a fun old time. There were many Rusty Blackbirds in one area, flying back and forth across the river. Some cabins dotted the shore in places. One had a concrete boat dock where a Canada Goose family were sunning themselves. We also saw a Bald Eagle fly overhead & Eastern Phoebes were flitting about. We kayaked around a small island that had lots of flowers in the fields. It was scenic & interesting. Click any picture below to see a slideshow.
We paddled north against the current. When we were paddling south back to the boat launch the wind picked up – against us. When we got back to the car, we were both tired & hungry. In Errol, we stopped at Subway & got sandwiches, eating them in the car; we were famished & it was after 1 p.m. Errol was crowded, much moreso than yesterday. Must be the people coming in for the weekend. LOTS of ATVrs.
We headed back to the RV, took our showers, and collapsed. Enough exercise for today. It’s getting more humid & is supposed to get close to 90 degrees by Sunday. We’ll see if that really happens. And we’ll also see if the bugs get worse: today we noticed a few biting black flies. It’s possible bug season starts later here. Meanwhile, it’s early to bed for us tonight.
