TRAVEL DAY: GREENVILLE, MAINE TO RANGELEY, MAINE.
Day 28 – We were up early this morning since it was a travel day and you never know how long it will actually take to pack up, get to a new place, and set up there. After being unable to dump our tanks when we arrived at this campground, we were desperate to do the dumping before leaving for today’s trip. We checked with the ranger regarding the status of the dump station; he said the facilities were partially open and he told us which area to use. After dumping tanks, successfully we departed Lily Bay State Park at 8:20 a.m. It was sunny & 53 degrees. It had rained most of the night.
The drive was pretty on two-lane roads through the occasional small town. There were lakes, rivers, lots of trees, and hills to climb. Traffic was light. We arrived at Rangeley Lake State Park at 12:05 p.m., almost an hour before check-in time. This was in spite of more long & winding rough roads, road work, plus the standard stop at a pull-out for sandwiches & a kitty break. The ranger said we couldn’t check in for another 40 minutes but we could go to the dump station and fill our tanks with fresh water while we waited. Click any picture below to see a slideshow.
At 12:50 we checked in and drove to site #7L to set up camp. It was 57 degrees, cloudy & windy. After we got all set up including the screened tent, we took a short walk to the lake. It was windy and the water was very choppy. We saw no one out on the lake. The girls were all settled in by the time we got back.
We were expecting a phone call and after that was done, we went to the screened tent. The sun had come out and it was very pretty. We had Spaghetti with Pesto plus Garlic Bread for dinner. This area of the campground appeared to be full by evening. It was quiet except for barking dogs. Tomorrow we’ll probably take a drive to check it out around here – it’s been three years since we were here last.
