Day 23 – Still cold in the mornings, 33 degrees at 6:45 a.m., sunny. From what we’ve heard, this is much colder than the usual evening/morning temperatures for this area. Better cold than too hot as far as we’re concerned. Heavy rain & wind is expected tomorrow, so enjoy the sun while we can! A front will be passing through.
We went for a drive today. Got gas today in Machias on the way to the health store, which was supposed to be open but was closed. Our usual lunch place in East Machias, Riverside Take-out, was closed on Monday’s. Subway was the only choice, but give them credit, it was very good when we did stop for lunch at Roque Bluffs.
We drove south through Machiasport to various ports & ocean towns: Starboard, Jasper Beach, Roque Bluffs, etc. Everything was quiet & calm, not many tourists. The waves were crashing a bit due to the upcoming storm. We discovered a dirt road leading to Long Point Preserve; it was a beautiful drive & we’ll keep it in mind for future hikes & kayaking. We also discovered a marijuana farm – when whizzing by on the main road, it looked like a dense Christmas tree farm, but we did a double-take as we passed: Was that a field of pot? Drove back by & yes, it was. And not even behind a fence. We looked for rifles pointed our way – shouldn’t this land be protected by guns? Guess not. We took a picture and drove on. My, how things have changed.
The high today in Roque Bluffs was 62 degrees, though it was cooler at our land when we got back. We cooked up a batch of scampi sauce and served it over pasta and scallops. Tonight Rob worked on the building permit for the cottage in preparation for submitting it to the Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC).
