Day 19 – It was still windy this morning at 6:30, so Rob didn’t stay out on the cliff for long. 58 degrees. We hung around for awhile with our coffee and the New York Times via phone. Then we headed out for a day away from the RV and house plans.
We got gas near Lubec, drove out near Cobscook Bay & looked at houses, then drove on Route 1 north to the Pembroke area. Our first time north on this trip, we saw that more roadwork had been completed and that the signs for Mrs, Griffith’s crabmeat and Betty’s crabmeat were not out, meaning that fresh crab was not in stock. Driving by the sign for Tide Mill Farm reminded us that the organic farm is open for its’ Saturday farm market. Note to self: don’t forget this Saturday morning!
We drove into Eastport for our yearly trip to Raye’s Mustard Mill for the world’s best mustard; they were closed for renovation & expansion but the Raye’s Mustard store in Eastport was open for sales. We stopped by and got our annual supply. They do have some local crafts, particularly jams, seasonings, soaps, etc. We did buy a lobster-rope doormat for outside the RV door to help keep us from tracking in dirt. It is in beautiful colors & we love it – less sweeping of the floor!

We noticed that most storefronts were empty or temporarily closed – COVID again. The town was almost empty until we got to our lunch destination: Quoddy Bay Lobster, a lobster pound known for its fresh lobster rolls. They were packed & most tables were taken with mask-wearing customers. We ordered two jumbo lobster rolls to go. The wait was 45 minutes, but it was worth it. Almost more lobster than we could eat (and that’s saying a lot), very fresh & very tender, we ate in the car & enjoyed the wait & lunch, overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay.
After lunch, we drove on the residential streets looking at houses, then headed back to Route 1 and west to Boyden Lake. We drove all the way around the Lake. The wind had died down & it reached 70 degrees. A very nice day. We got back to the RV around 3:30 p.m. & headed out to the screened tent. A good, relaxing day.
