WE’RE  BACK…………

Day 1 – We departed home in NY at 10:35 a.m. this morning.  It was a beautiful day with a comfortable temperature of 68 degrees and partly cloudy.  It rained the last couple of days and recently cooled off somewhat.  We had a warm summer and we’re glad it’s cooler & the humidity is dropping.  In the past we’d come home from one trip, unpack & do things around the house, keep appointments, and rush around to pack up and go out again as soon as possible.  This time we had plenty of time to prepare leisurely and it was so much more pleasant.  Hopefully, lesson learned.

The girls took a little while to adapt to being home last November, but soon were chasing each other all over the house and having a gay old time.  We were concerned that with so much time at home, there would be a big adjustment when we went out camping again.  Not so, surprisingly!  Once nestled back in their traveling space in the bedroom, not a peep was heard.  And immediately when we arrived at the campground, they went back to their old favorite places within the RV and were content.  Amazing.

We drove from our house to the NYS Thruway (I-87) north and traveled in NY until entering Massachusetts on the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) east.  Traffic wasn’t bad at all, which is something we’ve found since COVID arrived – traffic is much lighter.  It was very green and lush, really pretty out, particularly enjoyable after being inside the house so much.

We stopped at a rest stop a little after noon, let the kitties out for a break & a bite, and we made sandwiches for ourselves.  Not very crowded.  It was 68 degrees with a decent breeze.  Back on the I-90 a little while, then we headed north on I-91 and drove to Bernardston, not far from the Vermont border.  Getting off on Route 10, we went west & then south on Route 5 a short distance to Cross Street east.  A short distance later on this very narrow road, we headed south for about a block on River Street to our campground.

We arrived at Traveler’s Woods of New England RV Campground at 2:10 p.m.  It was breezy and a lovely 72 degrees.  Wonderful!  We’d made reservations & were promptly directed to our campsite, #23.  The campground as usual was immaculate. We’ve stayed here many times before and find this place to be an excellent stopover when we want to avoid the long, arduous drive all the way west-to-east on the Mass Turnpike.  We set up camp and were relaxing by 3 p.m.  It wasn’t overly crowded.  Not too shabby.  The girls are happy as clams.

After a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon (me) and a Backwoods Bastard beer (Rob), we had dinner around 6 p.m., pasta with mushrooms & shrimp we’d made at home, served with Rob’s great garlic cheese bread (on home-made bread).  Fed the cats and with everyone having full bellies, we settled in with our books and kitties on our laps.  What more could you want?!
