HEADING FOR HOME.
Day 198 – Cloudy & 34 degrees this morning at 7 a.m., we packed up and left at 9:30 a.m. Traffic wasn’t too bad. We made potty stops, stopped for lunch at a rest stop, and got gas in the RV. There was just a tiny bit of fall color here & there; most of the leaves were down off the trees.
When we got home, we were tired & we didn’t know what to expect at the house. We’d been gone since April 27. The yard & driveway were more than ankle-deep in fallen leaves. The Japanese Maple had lost all its leaves; we missed that color this year, but the Burning Bushes had just a bit of red left on them. It must’ve been lovely. Inside the house, the water came back on without a hitch & the wood pellet stove worked first try. Appliances got plugged back in and worked, hallelujah, & the propane heater worked. YAAAA! The roof gutters are full of leaves & debris; that’s a job for ASAP. Only a few branches were down, no big trees & no leaks in the roof or tree branches sticking out of the roof this year.
The girls went bananas when they saw they’d be carried one-by-one into the house. This time they seemed to remember where they were. We got them set up with toys, food, water, and a litter box first. We unpacked as much of the RV as we could handle before dropping onto the couch in exhaustion. But you know what? It was good to be home!
It is now Thursday. The RV has been completely unpacked & everything is put back up in the house. Rob washed the car and the RV and prepped the RV for winter. This part had to be done as soon as possible because the temperatures were headed down to the teens in about 24 hours. 7 loads of laundry have been done, including all the bedding & towels, etc., and there’s still more to be done. Much of that has been loaded back into the RV for next time. Today we took the RV to CT (2 ½ hours each way). We left her there with a list of items for them to check & a couple of things to fix. These trips with the RV to CT are always a drag because there is so often a problem getting parts or some delay. We’ll pick her up all fixed like new, some time in December. Meanwhile, it’s been quite hectic, my cold came back again yesterday, and Rob leaves for CA tomorrow. And it’s still good to be home.
This is the last post until our next trip – except that we will write a Trip #6 Recap at some point. We don’t know how long we’ll be at home this time. I hope to get surgery on my knee & have a surgical consult scheduled for Nov. 25. If at all possible, we will be joining my stepsister, Karen, & her husband, and possibly other friends & relatives, in New Orleans for a big birthday celebration for Karen. That would be early January. Until then, best wishes & lots of love to everyone. Thanks for coming along with us to Newfoundland!

Good luck tomorrow!
