LABRADOR – SHELTER FROM THE STORM.

Day 135 – Last night, the sky became overcast and the wind began picking up about the time it was getting dark (which is earlier & earlier now – summer is over for sure). I was nervous and kept waking up every two hours or so. At midnight it was very windy, no rain. At 2 a.m. it was raining and the wind was really blowing. At around 4 a.m. the wind was howling & the rain was coming down sideways. When Rob got up at 7 a.m. it was raining and very windy; I asked Rob to close the shade so I wouldn’t have to look at the bushes blowing so hard.

We were so glad we moved to this more-protected campsite. It’s in a depression; it is windier up higher. We are wedged between thick bushes and the trees aren’t so big that if one fell, it would be deadly. The ranger has been driving by checking on us. Everything is fine.

The wind gusts seemed to peak between 8 and 11 a.m. and the rain stopped with just some stray showers. At around noon, the wind started letting up somewhat, although it’s almost 8 p.m. right now and it’s still windy. The heavier rain started up in the afternoon and has been almost continual. This storm won’t be completely over until tomorrow, I expect.

We drove to the Wi-Fi station to get an updated weather forecast and a report of storm damage. It was about 4:30 p.m. We drove by our earlier campsite with the ocean view. The waves were high and much louder than the wind at that point. We’re glad we moved. Based on the latest forecast, we’ll probably stay here tomorrow night, too. Winds will still be high enough we’d rather not drive the RV in them; it’s just not comfortable. We also don’t know if any damage was done and if the roads are closed or not. We’ll give them time to clean things up. We’re glad we weren’t in Nova Scotia, or the Bahamas for sure!
