NEWFOUNDLAND – BUGS
Day 101 – We woke up early this morning. Mosquitoes were on the rampage in the RV. We’d left most of the windows open all night – we do that often – but the mosquitoes had found a way in. There was no breeze to keep them away; they were out in full force. The girls helped us as we got rid of them, one-by-one, but both of us had gotten a number of itchy bites by then. It didn’t appear they were biting the girls; they were not scratching anyway. It was 57 degrees and foggy at 6:15 a.m.
We had bug problems with the RV our first summer after retirement in Maine. A month plus with biting black flies, little gnatty bugs (no-see-ums), and mighty mosquitoes. We’d finally determined there was a small space in the bigger bedroom window frame where they were getting in. Rob sealed it. We also replaced all the screens in the windows and the ceiling vents with double-small, no-see-um screening. We hadn’t had a problem since, inside the RV anyway. As the day went on we determined a couple of places in a couple of window frames that could be this problem. Now all the windows will not remain open. Bummers. We’ll work on fixing that issue after we get home from this trip.
We left the campground for a campground scouting trip at around 10 a.m. The weekend is our next possible problem for getting a campsite. We’ve definitely noticed an increase in campers in the past week or two. It is August. Kids in Newfoundland return to school in the beginning of September. We shouldn’t have to worry about full campgrounds after that. We drove north, then east, to Triton at the end of a peninsula to check out a campground there. It was at the town park. There were only seven campsites, pretty much in a row, out in the open. We saw a sign advertising the “Capelin Festival” in Triton for this coming weekend. It will probably be busy. We looked at another campground in Robert’s Arm, on the same peninsula, but on the bay. This campground was nestled in the trees and sites were much more private. We picked our favorite sites, and on the way out we reserved site #35 for Wednesday thru Saturday nights. Mission accomplished. We stopped in the town of Springdale at Subway and had lunch.
We drove back to the RV, dealt with more mosquitoes inside, then went out to the screened tent and enjoyed the afternoon breeze. The high today was 75 degrees, partly cloudy, partly sunny. When we got back, the three mouseketeers – Gracie, Luna, & Pixie, were up to no good in the bedroom. Java was sleeping in a chair. Then, with sun on the dashboard, Luna disappeared behind the curtain in order to obtain full sun while Gracie plopped down & Java loved her. Later Gracie helped me with writing today’s blog post. Speaking of the posts, we have internet connection issues here. Will post, e-mail, text, etc. when we can.

Love the pics! Ugh the bugs!
