NEWFOUNDLAND – WE’RE STILL HERE IN ST. BRIDE’S.
Day 48 – The wind got stronger last night, up into the 20’s sustained with higher gusts. The forecast this morning was for the winds to continue most of today, not above 20 MPH but still in the upper teens. We just didn’t feel safe in leaving this morning, so we’re staying here another day & hopefully leaving tomorrow. It is, however, brightly sunny today, a gorgeous day except for the wind.
Last night Rob looked at ventusky.com (an excellent site for wind & other weather, thank you for this info, Michael). It showed two fronts converging & meeting up right here at the tip of this peninsula. It looked nasty; no wonder it was so bad out. Today, even though it’s still very windy, it is warmer at a high of 55 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. In spite of the high wind, Rob went back to Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve. Scaredy-cat me, I wasn’t about to walk on the top of the cliff; I stayed at the RV. He had a great time and came back with lots of good pictures, including pictures of the baby foxes’s dad who was out & about on the trail.

This afternoon we baked some bread. The wind was finally beginning to die down. We went out on the observation deck and watched the waves rolling in. The breakers were bigger than they have been, I guess due to the storm. The wind should return to about normal later tonight, and we look forward to that!
