MOVIN’ TOWARDS MAINE.
Day 2 – We both slept very well, better than we had in weeks. The girls returned to their regular sleeping spots. Seems we’ve all immediately gotten back into the groove. It was 36 degrees this morning at 6:30 a.m.; we’re heading further north again. And the farther north we go, the less signs of spring we’ve seen. Back into late winter? Our travel goal today is Salisbury, MA, close to the New Hampshire border.
We departed Traveler’s Woods at 11:50 a.m. after a relaxing morning catching up with things. It was 50 degrees with light rain. We had lunch before we left and still had gas in the vehicle, so we didn’t have to make any stops. We arrived at Salisbury Beach State Reservation in Salisbury, MA at 2:05 p.m. It was 58 degrees, the high for the day, partly cloudy and a little windy. The office where you normally check in was closed. (Uh-oh, we said. Well, if the campground was closed, the gates would be down. Rob checked closely to see if any notices had been left stating the campground wasn’t open yet for the season. Nothing.) We drove down the road towards the campground. There were plenty of cars, people picnicking & enjoying the day use area. The gates of the campground were open, but no one was there. One other RV was parked, but it soon left. We decided to take our pick from hundreds of campsites, and we set up figuring if we weren’t supposed to be there, someone would come and kick us out. No one came.
Near darkness, following a brilliant rainbow over the Atlantic Ocean, a camper van arrived and they parked at the other end of the campground. All the day use people had left. Several times campground personnel drove by in their truck, but no one stopped to tell us to leave. We went to Brown’s Lobster Pound, just across the border into New Hampshire, and had a fish dinner. It’s a favorite, local place that we go to often when staying in this area. Back at the RV, we relaxed and read our books, then off to bed early. Yawn!

Salisbury Beach State Reservation: 1 Beach Road, Salisbury, MA 01952, (978) 462-4481, salisbury.beach@state.ma.us. Check in 1 p.m. Check out 11 a.m. We’ve stayed here many times in the past as a one-night stopover when traveling to Maine. Our campground review can be found here: Tuesday, May 29, 2018. The only difference this time was that we had Site #46C, and even though it was off-season, we had water & electrical hook-ups. We don’t know what the off-season rate was because the Park office was closed. We will call them during office hours & find out how to pay.
