Day 28 – It was supposed to be partly sunny this morning by 10 a.m. It’s after 12:30 p.m. right now & still very cloudy. We’d wanted to get some pictures (with sun) of this area and maybe go birding & gatoring. It was 33 degrees at 7:30 a.m. this morning. The girls are very happy with the heated pads!
Finally in the afternoon, some sun came out between the clouds & it had “warmed” up to 45 degrees. We took a drive around the Park to get a better idea of where things were in relation to the campsite. We found there is a long boardwalk going out into the saltwater marsh within walking distance of our site. Now I know where I’ll find Rob every morning! We stopped at the gift store and picked up a card & a souvenir – very nice store with very tempting stuff if we were in the market to buy something for ourselves. We saw plenty of trails for both hiking & biking, and many places to easily get out to the Ocean. We drove to the Brookgreen Gardens, WOW. It’s close to the campground with beautiful grounds; we saw some people riding bikes there, too. They also have a butterfly garden in addition to the botanical garden and the zoo. This Saturday they’ll offer a program on sweetgrass basket making. We’re planning on spending the day at the Gardens when it looks to be nicely sunny & warmer. This really is a great State Park, and we’re glad we can stay a week!
After our little tour by car, we went to the causeway for some birding, and we hoped to see some alligators. The causeway had a walkway on both sides of the bridge with several short boardwalks along the way. There are signs warning about the possibilities of alligators and asking people not to feed them. Uh, don’t worry; we won’t. The thought hadn’t occurred to us! We saw no alligators but plenty of birds, and we took a couple of hours, walking & taking pictures. It was really nice.

Back to the RV, we made a large pot of Vegetable Soup, had some garlic bread with it, and we still had enough soup left over to last for days. Most of the campers here have dogs, and they keep their owners busy walking them. We have a hard enough time getting the kitties off their heated pads to eat, let alone take a walk. There currently is no one camping around us & it’s quiet. We’re sure that will change by the Holiday weekend. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we hope to get an earlier start & go to the Gardens.
