Day 123, Saturday – The girls woke us up at 6 a.m. Cold – 38 degrees, cloudy. We tried to ignore them & stay warm in bed, but they were insistent. Rob got up at 6:35; I didn’t. He’s the morning person. It started raining at 10 a.m., 42 degrees, and the wind was picking up. No word that whalewatching has been cancelled. Should be interesting!
When it got close to time for us to leave for whalewatching & we hadn’t heard anything, we went ahead & had lunch, got ready to go, and 5 minutes before we walked out the door, we got a call that whalewatching had been cancelled for the day due to weather conditions. It really was pretty nasty out & when we thought about it, we knew it would’ve been uncomfortable. It never got warmer than 44 degrees; the rain & wind continued most of the day. We hunkered down & only went into town briefly to get rid of the recycleable trash.
Day 124, Sunday – Finally, clear skies & sunlight. A little windy, 35 degrees this morning at 7:30 a.m. Rob sat outside with his coffee, then walked around a little when he got cold. A Great Blue Heron was fishing up the Harbor, seemingly unconcerned that it was cold. The search for food at low tide must go on.
It remained sunny, beautiful out, the view through the trees of the water was tempting us to sit outside. After lunch Rob went out to see if it might be warm enough, but we decided, not yet, we’ll wait a little longer until the sun is over the tent. Diane had asked if he could move a tree that had fallen across Diane’s Way, a path near their cottage that they maintain for everyone to use. So Rob went to the trail & took care of the tree. When he came back, we sat in the RV waiting for the breeze to die down & the temperature to rise. Diane was out hiking & stopped by to catch up. Great chatting with you, Diane!
At 3 p.m. we ventured out to the screened tent. Such a gorgeous, sunny day should not be wasted. It was 49 degrees. We survived. We bundled up & used a small propane heater. Only a slight breeze, a beautiful sunny sky, and deep turquoise water. The sun looks wonderful when it filters through the trees to places it couldn’t reach before Rob cleaned up the woods. So nice. We had Shrimp & Scallop Scampi over Angel Hair Pasta for dinner. The high today reached 50 degrees. More rain is forecast for tomorrow.
