WHAT IS IT WITH US & HEATERS!
Day 219 – 29 degrees and snowing lightly this morning. With the wind, it’s really cold out. We
figured we’d stay inside today, relaxed in the morning and were just about finished with lunch when there was a big clanking noise from the furnace. Here we go again.
Rob went outside and checked the blower fan and found that it was warped & cracked. Why? We have no idea. But we immediately turned off the RV’s gas heat. It had stopped snowing but still windy and 35 degrees. We couldn’t use the RV’s electric heat. It doesn’t work below 40 degrees because it’s a heat pump.
Rob plugged in an electrical floor heater we’d brought in case of an emergency. (Isn’t “Be Prepared” the Boy Scout motto?) Thank goodness we had that. He spent the afternoon calling RV part’s stores (we are near Elkhart, IN so there are plenty of them) and found one that could order a new part and receive it tomorrow afternoon. But when he tried to remove the current blower fan, he didn’t have a tool that he needed, so he had to go to a hardware store to buy that. He went to Yoder’s Shipshewana Hardware and found himself in the middle of another era – horse-drawn buggies crossing & stopped at four-way stop signs in the middle of the busy town, and they were parked in parking lots & along-side the road just like cars. He saw one buggy pass another buggy, too. I will have to see this for myself. Hmmm, I bet the bakeries are good!
Anyway, he came back with the tool and removed the broken fan. We are huddled by the floor fan now, but the girls do have their heated pads. I think we’ll make some garlic bread now and use the oven, too. That should help.
