Day 40 – 6:30 a.m., 63 degrees, partly cloudy & humid. The bushes at the rear of the campsite are filled with birds and the cats are plastered to the window screens watching them flit about. Rob took a bike ride to the Park Headquarters and picked up a park map; it took him a while, this Park is huge. It borders Lake Seminole at the confluence of Lake Seminole and the Chattahoochee River. Lake Seminole then flows into the Apalachicola River down to the Gulf. We are at the Southwest corner of Georgia; Florida is south and west of us and Alabama is west and above Florida.
The campground is full this morning, guess that’s because it’s the weekend. The sites are quite large and spaced a good distance apart from each other. We really like our site (#30); it’s big and sunny in some parts, shady in other parts. The back of the site is bushes and trees and behind that is Lake Seminole. Many of the sites are sitting right on the Lake, but they are in full sun.
We have internet and cell phone connections again, marginal but something. We posted a week’s worth of blog entries this morning. We’d kept up with the writing but had no conection to post. Made pancakes and then went out to the screened tent to vegetate, both of us taking naps in response to all the carbs in the pancakes. High today 83 degrees, humid and cloudy.
Later in the day, we took a drive to a place we’d heard about where there were supposedly 2 baby bald eagles in a nest, near the entrance to the Park. Found the nest but no eagles were visible. Drove around to various parks and boat launch sites. Motor boating is BIG here. We’re looking for a good place to launch kayaks, away from the larger bodies of water and the boats racing by. Found a couple of possibilities for later in our stay here. We found Jim’s Bar-B-Que where the locals go; the parking lot was full. I wonder if the millions of Bar-B-Que places in the South serve anything other than meat, pork, and chicken. BBQ fish? Went back to the RV for our leftover puttanesca pasta with shrimp, scallops, and garlic bread. Lazy day, very relaxing.
