Day 7 – It was 36 degrees again this morning, rising to 42 degrees by 10 a.m.  Phew! It’s going to be a hot one! LOL. Rob went out to the cliff this morning; he saw his Loon friend floating by below in the Harbor & heard Canada Geese in the distance.

We’ve gotten some responses from some of the campgrounds and should have a better idea by tonight of what’s available & when we’ll leave for Canada. We have already decided, though, to minimize our ferry trips by crossing the border north of us at Calais, rather than crossing here at Lubec. There is a nice campground already open near Saint Andrews, New Brunswick and that will be our first stop. When?  That depends on what’s open further down the line. It appears that very few campgrounds are open yet in the western part of Newfoundland. And we’ve heard there’s still snow on the ground in St. Martins, New Brunswick. (We may be attempting to do this trip too early in the year, but we really wanted to increase our chances of seeing icebergs!)

The high today was only 48 degrees, mostly cloudy, and rain started again in the late afternoon.  We had a relaxing day inside. We got enough responses from the e-mails & phone calls to be able to set up a plan as to which campgrounds to stop at that were open for business on the way to Newfoundland. We now plan to leave here on Tuesday, May 7. If we can successfully cross the border, we will be staying in New Brunswick, Canada for six nights, then on to Nova Scotia for four nights, then taking a ferry to Newfoundland thereafter. But we’re not going to make any reservations for the ferry crossing until we see if we have a problem crossing into Canada on Tuesday, 5/7.

Meanwhile, we’ll go into Machias tomorrow for supplies and stop to see our friends at the Riverside Take-Out in East Machias for some awesome fish. Oink oink. Last time we saw them, last October/November, they were planning on taking a trip south for the winter, too.
