Day 209 – 28 degrees when we woke up this morning, and snow on the ground. And it kept on snowing for a couple of hours. In addition, we didn’t have heat last night so it was quite cold in the RV. Rob installed the new control board and we soon had heat again. But when he went outside to do that chore, he noticed that we had a flat tire on the Honda. Another one. Mr. Fix It was busy this morning. Meanwhile, it stopped snowing and the sun came out.
Rob put the spare tire on and we headed out to Union City, the closest sort-of big town. Goodyear was supposed to be open until 2 p.m. They were closed when we got there. The other tire place was closed, too. The only other alternative was Walmart. They repaired the tire, finding just a little pin-prick hole in it. On the way back to the campground we stopped at the south campground where they had the State Park Office for Reelfoot Lake Parks. We reserved two more nights at our campsite, then we drove through the south campground to see how it differed from the north campground where we were camping.
The south campground is much larger and has all the amenities. It’s located off the busy highway between two small towns. Many of the campsites are right on the Lake which is bordered by lovely Bald Cypress Trees. It was windy and the waves off the Lake were quite high, breaking right into a couple of the campsites. The campground was about 1/3 full and offered electric and water at each site. There was a dump station. It’s a very busy area with the Park Office, boat rentals, boat tours and eagle tours in season, many places to fish, a Visitor’s Center with raptors being rehabilitated on-site, a museum, stores & restaurants, plus two large day use areas. We were happy we chose the north campground with nothing around it; much more our style.
We drove back to the RV, Rob changed out the spare tire for the newly-repaired tire, and we made shrimp scampi for dinner. The high today was 45 degrees, the snow had all melted, and it was windy.
