LAST DAY AT GROS MORNE.
Day 150 – The low temperature was 54 degrees last night. The wind picked up today and it rained. We’ve been in Newfoundland for 4 months as of today, and this part of the trip is beginning to wind down. In less than 2 weeks we’ll be getting on the ferry that will take us from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia.
Hurricane or Tropical Storm Lee, whichever category it was at the time, was visiting downeast Maine today. Our friends near our land have battened down the hatches and are waiting it out. No word yet on damages. When we were here, in September 2019, the Strait of Belle Isle again hosted a hurricane. Must be that time of the month. We were in Labrador at the time, camping right on the water, and had to move to an inland campsite. It was a couple of scary days with very high winds and lots of rain. From what we’ve heard thus far, it won’t get that bad here this time for Storm Lee.
Yesterday a little after noon, lots of campers arrived at the KOA. Many children, most of them yelling and screaming, plus several loudly barking dogs, were running around. Also, the campsite we moved to is on the exit road – all vehicles leaving the campground go through this part of the campground. We finally shut our windows; then the noise wasn’t bad. It turned out to be a special weekend here at the KOA – early Halloween and early Thanksgiving. Evidently, people with kids come here this weekend in particular for the “holiday” and end-of-season celebrations hosted by the KOA. Lesson learned…..
We did a load of laundry today and made a Shrimp Salad for sandwiches. We went to the Black Spruce Restaurant for the final time this trip. And we actually got pictures of our meal. I had to make Rob put down his fork for a second, but we actually did it. LOL.

For clarification purposes, we had the Mooseberry Cocktails (Partridgeberry) to start, followed by appetizers: I had the Potato & White Onion Soup and Rob had the Smoked Mackerel Terrine. The main course was – for Rob, the Crispy Tofu, which he had last time, and for me, the Newfoundland Cod, which he had our first time there. We could not fit in their perfect Baked Cheesecake for dessert, so we brought 2 pieces home for tomorrow night. A Bald Eagle flew by the windows overlooking the Bay (for the second time out of our 3 visits to Black Spruce).
Tomorrow morning we leave for a campground north of Corner Brook. We’ve never been to this campground before. Always risky, we’ll see how it goes, storm and all. The high temperature today was 64 degrees, and by late afternoon the wind gusts were stronger.
