CROQUE & GRANDOIS.
Day 124 – The threat of rain remained for this afternoon, so we went out for a drive this morning. It was 61 degrees at 7 a.m., very cloudy with no wind. The girls have settled in here and they are happy with the campground. There are still no other campers here, no barking dogs or ATVs roaring around, so they are maintaining their normal schedules of eating, sleeping, eating, sleeping, eating, sleeping, playing, and sleeping.

We left the Park at 9:30 a.m. and headed north. It’s remote and fairly unpopulated in this area, so most of our day was spent driving, with a few stops along the way to sightsee. We’d expected to see Moose and/or Caribou. Nothing. HUGE difference from when we were here during spring last time vs summer now.
We drove north as far as the village of Main Brook, drove through, checked out a Town Park campground nearby, and turned around, heading back the way we came. We turned off on Route 438, a dirt/gravel road that took us to two villages near the end of the road: Croque and Grandois. Both places were pretty, particularly down by the ocean, with the inlets, bays, and islands nearby. There were large amounts of Sea Gulls, both villages had small harbors, and fishing was certainly the business keeping the communities alive. There were old, old, buildings and fishing stages/sheds. We could certainly imagine busier days. Both villages are part of “The French Shore”, and that influence was obvious.

We drove back to Route 433 and headed south to the campground. The sky had darkened. We had a lunch snack in the RV, then went out to the screened tent until it started raining. Back inside the RV for the rest of the day, we relaxed with the girls. Yawn.
