ENGLEE & BIDE ARM.

Day 123 – Wow, last night we each had a Sticky Bun from The Bakery in Port au Choix. They were incredible, and the reviews were spot on. We checked our calendar to find out if we’d next be in Port au Choix on a Saturday – and we will! Oh boy! Grin.

It had rained during the night but was only cloudy with a little wind this morning at 7 a.m. The weather forecast for this week still holds for plenty of rain and high wind gusts daily.

Rob got a few bird pictures around the campground; there are lots of trees and bushes and plenty of birds here. We can hear the Loons calling from the Bay behind our campsite.

The sun came out around 9:00, we figured we’d better get out and enjoy it while it lasted. We drove a short distance north to the village of Bide Arm. Much smaller than its sister town, Roddickton, Bide Arm is located across from the campground at the end of the Canada Bay. In 1969, an entire village was relocated from a remote outport called Hooping Harbour to Bide Arm. Many of the island homes were towed by water to their new destination.

We returned to Route 433 and headed south to lovely Englee, a charming, scenic village where the Canada Bay meets the Ocean. In May of 2019 there was a large iceberg stuck at the opening to Englee. It was as close as we’ve ever gotten, by land, to an iceberg. We’ve actually touched an iceberg when in a boat. We love Englee. An artist who lives there makes incredible hooked rugs and supposedly works with sea glass. Her studio is open Monday thru Friday, so we’ll be going back to Englee again while we’re here this trip.

We returned to the RV in time to make lunch. Then Rob set up the screened tent and we spent the afternoon reading and napping. I really hope we didn’t work too hard today! It began clouding up around 4 p.m. Maybe it will rain and get windy again after all.
