MORE GRATE’S COVE.

Day 75 – A foggy morning, the cats let us sleep in, their gift to us. About a half hour later, we heard the sound of Whales blowing in the Cove. They’d come close-in for breakfast. As the Whales arrived, the fog went out. How nice of all of them!

It ended up being three Humpback Whales over a period of close to two hours. All three entered the Cove at one time or another, but they stayed separate, one of them coming so close-in that I was afraid it would hurt itself on the rocks. I guess it was experienced in fishing and knew what it was doing, LOL. We got pictures of a couple of them coming out of the water wide-mouthed with their catch of the day. Awesome. After the display, they moved on, and we went back to our morning rituals.

The weather has been great here with much less fog than we experienced in 2019. At night it’s about 60 degrees and daytime temperatures have ranged from the mid-60’s to the mid-70’s. Yesterday afternoon, another truck left the harbor, filled with fish. There’s a truck down there now, waiting for the fishermen to come in. There’s always several fishing boats out there in the Ocean. Rumor has it that long ago you could just dip a hand-held net into the water and it would come up filled with Cod. We’ve actually seen old photos that verify this. Seems to us that they aren’t doing too bad these days either, although there are complaints about the rules as to when and where they can fish, with restrictions on how much they can catch. They also catch Lobster and Crab here.

Throughout the day, one or both of us sat outside on the lookout for Whales. They didn’t visit with the frequency nor numbers of yesterday, but each sighting was great. At one point, a Bald Eagle flew over – um, do we look at the Eagle or the Whale? It was a pretty day. We took pictures around the Cove, too.

We went to the restaurant for dinner. It was excellent. We split the Cod Boulettes for an Appetizer (cod fritters), the Lentil Curry Rice with Scallops dinner plus the Cod in a Tomato Cream Sherry Sauce with Rice dinner, and we each had the homemade Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with Partridgeberry Sauce. YUM! Another good day at Grate’s Cove.
