Day 84 – Snow And Hail???
We got up at 7 a.m. It was 34 degrees out and it was snowing lightly, but the snow wasn’t sticking to the ground. A bit windy & quite cold. Around 10:00 it started hailing, and as it began to collect on the RV windshield wipers, Pixie was fascinated, watching the hail as it fell. It was still snowing an hour later. The River rages on, no kayaking for us today! At this rate, not even a walk around the campground.
We’d been volunteering for the American Red Cross, Northeastern District, for a while before we left on this trip, and Rob had designed a database for them to use to track and control their inventory. He’d recently been notified there was a problem with it & I had some things to catch up on, so this was a good opportunity for us to work on them. We stayed at the RV until early afternoon, then took a drive to familiarize ourselves with the area. We drove in a loop driving along the St. Regis and then along Deer River, looking for good places to launch the kayaks. Didn’t find any because either the lands were private or the water was too rough & the current too strong. We’ll go South into the Adirondacks on our next drive. It’s pretty, rugged, and wild here; lots to explore when the weather permits.
Later in the afternoon at the RV, it started snowing again – great big flakes of snow but still, nothing is staying on the ground. 39 degrees and falling, wind, rain, and snow. The girls are snuggled in, the windows are fogged up; we can hear the River as it roars by but can’t see it. End of Week Twelve.
